Swords & Sails is a classic conquest and diplomacy game about leading your armies and fleets to victory and conquest throughout medieval Europe in 1000 AD.
Swords & Sails is a tabletop wargame that supports 2 – 7 players. The mechanics are simple, along familiar lines of Memoir 44 and Risk which makes it easy for anyone to jump right in and play. Clocking in at over 750 components, there’s a lot of game in this one!
The year is 1000 AD, the European continent is constantly at war while competing political factions try to control Europe through military might and political intrigue. Use and control of cities and ports are key for empires to become wealthy and powerful. Swords & Sails comes with the following seven factions:
- BYZANTIUM EMPIRE
- KIEVAN RUS’ EMPIRE
- HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE
- FATIMID CALIPHATE
- KINGDOM OF FRANCE
- KINGDOM OF ENGLAND
- NORTH SEA EMPIRE
Players control one of these factions as they gather income, build armies and fleets, make and break alliances, spy on opponents, and wage war to conquer all of Europe. Can you alter the course of history?
One of the most interesting aspects of the game are the secret movement orders. Orders are written in secrecy and then carried out using hidden simultaneous movement, creating a real fog of war to challenge players.
